Chances are you’re not reading this article in a park, on the beach, or in your yard. That’s because the average American spends a whopping 93 percent of their time indoors. If you’re only getting outside for a few hours a week, you likely don’t have nearly enough natural light in your life. This equates to a much bigger health risk than most people realize, and can be a root cause of insomnia, fatigue, depression and other symptoms.
What a great thought – “I just had an amazing workout and burned a ton of calories, I’m gonna reward myself with a big lunch”. If only it was that easy. Sometimes we catch ourselves thinking a really hard workout can be followed by a rewarding meal, perhaps we eat more than we know we should.
I’m often asked the question, “is body contouring only for women”? I respond to this type of question with questions of my own. Typically something like, “well, is it only women that like to look younger”? Another response I give is, “do only women like to look better and lose a few inches quickly”?
As more and more medical research comes out about the benefits of LLLT for our skin, it just gets more and more exciting. I will attempt to keep up with these research papers and make the information available as soon as we can.
Are you kidding me? Shining some light on me is going to help my joint pain and reduce inflammation? Really?
The conversation started innocently enough - a man and his wife recognized me as I walked into Costco. The lady said, "I've had so many friends that your program has helped, thank you for changing their lives. I just wish you could help my husband". At that point her husband chimed in and said, "yeah, if you could just help me that would be wonderful".
He went on to explain he had type 2 diabetes and his medical doctor had told him he would suffer with it the rest of his life. He had been told diabetes is a chronic, debilitating disease and he would have to deal with it forever. He was on metformin, insulin and a couple of other medications he couldn't remember the name of.
I was astonished that he had not heard the truth. The latest medical research determined 8 out of 10 type 2 diabetics can have their suffering completely reversed in two months or less. Diabetes reversed in a few short weeks, without medication, without surgery and without suffering a lifetime of poor health.
I spent another 10 minutes with this couple explaining the research and scientific studies behind this miracle remedy. Then I let them know we provide this miracle remedy for type 2 diabetes in our office every day. I've been doing this work for 33 years and helped over a thousand former diabetics become NON-DIABETICS.
The miracle remedy to this terrible condition that is affecting 40% of our population is weight loss. Medical research revealed 87% of type 2 diabetics can reverse their condition with successful weight loss! The choice seems an easy one - continue taking medications for a lifetime trying to manage diabetes or reverse the disease and enjoy life again.
The couple that I met in the Costco parking lot both became clients of mine 3 years ago. They stopped in the office a few weeks back just to say hi. They had lost a total of 100 pounds together on our program. He no longer takes any medications and loves telling people he is a former diabetic. His wife pulled me aside and gave me a kiss on the cheek and said, "thank you for giving me my husband back".
If you have a loved one, a friend or a co-worker that suffers with type 2 diabetes, please let them know there is an 87% chance we can help them. I like those odds.
Recently I had an interesting discussion with a client. She came in for a re-check and was clearly not having her best day. I asked her how she was doing on her program and she quietly responded, "I'm really discouraged. I feel like eating terrible stuff like I used to".
I sat down beside her and asked why she was feeling so down. She said she was doing everything right and the scale hadn't moved in 3 days (sound familiar?). After a short question and answer session to determine she was following all the recommendations, we had a quick realization that turned her attitude completely around.
I asked her if she thought she was healthier because of the changes she had made to her eating. She said without a doubt she was healthier. I asked her if she was sleeping better, had better energy and felt more focused. Again, she said without a doubt she was way better in all categories. She added her blood pressure was down substantially and she was taking less medication as well.
I asked, "if all these positive things are happening, whether the scale is going down each day or not, why would you want to sabotage your progress by eating things you know are bad for you?" She immediately saw the point and responded, "there is no way I want to eat those bad things anymore".
Doing the right thing just because we know it is the right thing is reason enough. We cannot be validated solely by the scale, the pounds will come off and our health will vastly improve. The results won't always show on our time frame but we will see wonderful changes with consistent effort. Before we know it our habits have changed and lost pounds have become significant.
"Reputation is the public perception of your integrity, Integrity is what you do when no one is watching". Others determine our reputation, only we can determine our integrity. We can all work to perfect our integrity.
I spoke with this client a few days later and her scale was down 6 pounds. She said, "I don't even need that validation to stay the course, but I like seeing it". Keep up the fight and we win.
If you are obese or struggle with your weight loss in Boise, you probably want to punch anyone who says it's all in your mind or to modify your thoughts for successful weight loss. This type of vague "help" isn't really helpful at all, and it only serves to confuse and alienate people.
However, shifting your thinking in a few critical areas can make a big difference. Here are 5 specific ways that changing your thought process can help you lose that excess weight.
Before you buy a new pair of sneakers or even think of creating a diet plan, you must stop speaking negatively about your weight and your body. It may seem a little new age or fluffy to some, but it is very difficult to get excited about losing weight and following through, if you consistently tell yourself you can't lose weight or will never lose weight. Even if you aren't prepared to start heaping praise on yourself and speaking positively, at least stop the negative, self-sabotaging talk.
Most of the time, when someone makes the decision to lose weight, they focus on things like how much weight they will lose or what percentage of body fat they want. Sometimes, focusing on hard numbers like this makes it more difficult to stay motivated and makes it more upsetting if these numbers aren't reached. If you change your focus a little to real-world benefits like having more energy, getting sick less often or fitting your clothes better, it may help you to stay on track.
One big mistake many people make when starting a weight loss journey is proclaiming they will never eat certain bad foods again or never miss a workout. When you use the word never, and then inevitably stray or have a lapse, it only promotes feelings of guilt. Stay realistic with your weight loss and realize you will fall off the wagon every so often. That doesn't mean you shouldn't be disciplined, just don't say never.
If you are serious about losing weight, it's easy to beat yourself up when you eat a bad meal or gain a couple pounds. Keep in mind that a slip up every so often doesn't mean your entire plan is derailed. Perfection is not the ultimate goal and giving yourself a break during occasional transgressions will keep you motivated more than feeling bad.
One thing you'll hear a lot when someone is trying to lose weight is, "this food isn't that bad" or "that drink isn't so bad." Instead of this approach, try focusing on what is good. Rather than looking for foods that aren't that bad for you, look for foods that are good for you. Do this, and you'll find yourself eating a lot healthier and meeting your weight loss goals sooner.

We just completed a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday in Boise with all the related festivities of food and shopping. Hopefully, there was occasion to visit with loved ones and argue politics with some family members. There were times to relax, possibly watch some football, get an early start on Christmas shopping and take a few days off work.
When Monday came (today), we got back to work. Maybe it was a little difficult to get the momentum at work cranked up again. Maybe we felt like taking a nap around mid-afternoon. We possibly wanted to jump on Amazon.com and get an early start on cyber-Monday deals. Whatever we are doing today and however we are feeling, the important point is we got back to work. We might have been a bit reluctant but we knew our responsibility and reported to work. The world did not end because we took a few days off. We are still productive today and will be productive going forward.
This is exactly what we need to do if we got off the Dynamic Fat Loss program in Boise with our Thanksgiving eating. The world will not end if we overdid the holiday eating. We have not destroyed all our hard fought gains and lost our ability to continue. We just get right back to work. For those that let the eating get out of hand, learn from it and forgive yourself. Get right back to eating the foods and the quantities we know are healthy for us. Get right back to saying no to the sugary, carbohydrate filled foods we know will not help us reach our goals.
Just like returning to work on Monday, we return to making the food choices that make us feel better and allow us to function optimally. A day here or there will not destroy everything we have worked hard to achieve. The most important point to remember is that a day here or there will not hurt us, however, when we make it a habit is when we start to go backward.
Keep up the good work, get back to making good food choices and embrace vitality and longevity. Finish the year strong and determined. Be Blessed.
People in Kennewick seem to love debating whether exercise or diet is the more important factor when it comes to weight loss. Naturally, for a well-rounded and balanced attack, they are both a necessary part of your daily routine. However, when it comes right down to it, there does seem to be one that has more of an effect on weight loss in Kennewick.
If we are to look at the exercise vs. diet debate in an "either, or" situation, then most experts agree that diet is the more important factor. Some put the number at 80% to 20% in favor of diet, while others believe it is closer to 70/30. Exercise is crucial for improving circulation, building and maintaining muscles and keeping your joints healthy, but where weight loss is concerned, diet takes the lead.
Many avid gym-goers will likely dispute these opinions, but you didn't become overweight or obese because you spent too little time exercising. It was because of the types of food and amounts of food you put in your mouth each day. This becomes evident when your calorie intake is restricted for some reason, like with bariatric surgery. Obese patients that have weight loss surgery lose massive amounts of weight and it's due to their smaller stomachs and the inability to take in high amounts of calories.
Ideally, you want to create a balanced mix of diet and exercise to reach your weight loss goals and keep your body strong and flexible. Good health is about much more than what the numbers say on your bathroom scale. Simply losing weight doesn't mean you are a healthy person, so make a point of incorporating both exercise and dietary changes into your daily routine.
When you start moving your body more and modifying your eating habits, you will create new habits and routines that will be easier to stick to over the long-term. If it has been years since you have exercised and you have a lot of weight to lose, simply walking on a daily basis will get the ball rolling and point you in the right direction.
If you get confused and overwhelmed by all the diet products and advice out there, simply eating more slowly, chewing your food well and putting down your fork in between mouthfuls can help you eat less and lose weight. If you stop eating as soon as you begin to feel full, you will lower your caloric intake and have a greater chance at success.
